What is crankshaft position sensor?

A crankshaft position sensor is an electronic sensor that is responsible for monitoring the rotational speed and position of the crankshaft in an internal combustion engine. It detects the position of the crankshaft through the use of a rotating wheel with teeth that are located on the end of the crankshaft. As this wheel rotates, the sensor detects the teeth, and sends signals to the engine control module (ECM) to allow it to determine the exact position of the crankshaft. This information is used to assist the ECM in calculating the correct timing of the engine's valves and ignition system, ensuring that the engine runs smoothly and efficiently. A faulty crankshaft position sensor can cause a range of issues, including poor engine performance, misfiring, and stalling.
